DUGONG DUGON

BAR IN HAVELOCK AT BAREFOOT

Like many structures in the resort, Dugong Dugon lounge bar is inspired by one of the endemic inhabitants of the Andaman Islands. Radhanagar bay has extensive seagrass beds, which attract dugongs, also known as sea cows. The name of our bar pays homage to Zoe, a resident dugong who grazes in the vicinity, one of the last remaining of a locally endangered species.

ROBBER CRAB CAFE

AN ODE TO THE CRUSTACEANS OF THE COVE

As an ode to the robber crab, our café celebrates the elusive and largest land crustacean of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The name ‘Robber Crab’ comes from its bewildering and curious fascination with all things that shine and an inclination to “rob” trinkets—glimmering silverware, knives, and anything reflective. Adding to its repertoire of names is ‘Coconut Crab’. With a coconut-cracking prowess and effortless grace in ascending trees, the robber crab—or coconut crab—drops coconuts from the top of a coconut tree to crack them open and feast on the flesh within. Clad in a vibrant shell—a tapestry of browns, blues, reds and purples—the once plentiful Robber Crab has become increasingly rare, with only a fleeting glimpse on the island and across the world.
